Actors Needed for "Dirty Work at the Crossroads" Play Audition
Looking to cast male and female talent for the "Dirty Work at the Crossroads" play. Please see more details below. About the project: Synopsis! Dirty Work at the Crossroads is a comedic melodrama that tells in laughable style the tear jerking story of Nellie Lovelace, a country girl. Munro Murgatroyd is the classic villian in the play who is intent on selling some land underhandedly to the railroad. He has a wife Ida Rhinegold, belle of the New Haven Music Halls, but that does not prevent him from pursuing Nellie. Nor does it prevent him from driving Adam Oakhart, the blacksmith’s son to vices, or from blackmailing rich Mrs. Asterbilt, or from bewitching her daughter, Leonie. There are a number of places in the plot where old time songs are introduced. Additional info: The play takes place on Fridays and weekends from January 23, 2026 – February 8, 2026. Friday and Saturday performances are at 7:30 pm and Sunday matinees are at 2 pm. All performances will take place at the Vint Hill Theater on the Green, 4225 Aiken Drive, Warrenton, VA. You do not need to prepare any monologues. Sides will be provided. Even though this show is not a musical there are a few songs from the 1890s that will be sung. Please prepare a song to sing from that time period. Plan to stay the duration of the audition time. If interested, please apply.
10 roles
A typical heroine of the old-time melodrama - Beautiful, graceful, long blonde hair and a beautifully modulated voice.
A handsome but rugged son of the soil. All that a hero should be, but a certain rusticity in his speech and emotions.
A gentle old lady, soft-spoken but firm.
The villain of the show. Tall, dark, and handsome, with deep throaty voice, beetling eyebrows, side-burns, and a beautifully curled moustache.
Big, buxom, dark, and "vampirish". She dresses extremely, with long flowing velvets and big picture hats.
The hired man, and comic relief of the play.
A commanding dowager, ostentatiously dressed.
A sweet, young thing, with a bird-like manner; she trips about the stage as if she were about to take wing.
A burlesqued French maid. Very "ooo-la-la" and coquettish in manner, with dark, flashing eyes.
The child with no father. Lisping, childish, and cutesy.
