Russian speaking man. Having seen the horrors of war firsthand, this young man became a conscientious objector who deserted the war. And despite paying a high price for his decision, losing a leg to frostbite, Artyom remains entrenched in his anti-war beliefs. A bright young man from a middle-class family, who loves poetry and shoemaking, Artyom uses every ounce of his physical and mental might to get back to his family.

Russian speaking man. A staunch patriot who was once a soldier too. A decorated one, whose pride in his heroic exploits for the Motherland could be felt from afar. But now, the old man stands alone. No family, no friends, no backing from the state which he holds so dear. His only son died. in a war years ago. All that’s left is the inextinguishable belief in his national identity, which has been built from years of tradition and pride.
