Malú is a Brazilian teenage girl who has been struggling with her identity and to connect with others. She is still dealing with the suddenness of her move, and feels pressure from those around her to participate in activities and engage with what reminds her of home. Over time, she learns that she has a community around her. She realizes that her memories are not holding her back from creating new ones, but are rather a reminder of the person she has always been.
Helêna is an open, caring, and fun person. She is involved in various school activities, including the Brazilian club. She is outgoing and loves to go out, meet new people, and connect with those around her. She is connected to her culture, and throughout the video, helps Malú be as well.
Camila Santos is Malú’s mom. Camila is an environmental lawyer. She is kind, warm, and inviting. She worries for Malú, as she and Malú’s dad, Ricardo, navigate the feelings that come with immigrating to a new country.
Liz Jupira is Helêna’s mom. Liz is an elementary school teacher. Liz is kind, caring, and considerate. She drives Malú and Helêna to school every morning. Liz is a single mom, and is really close to her daughter.
