Casting Call for Emerging Directors Showcase
Auditions for inaugural Emerging Directors Showcase. Seeking cast. ONLY LOCAL TALENT WILL BE CONSIDERED. Please see the details below. About the project: The purpose of the program is to provide a learning environment for New Orleans-area emerging theatre directors to improve their craft through practical application and guidance by mentor directors. Three emerging directors will each direct a One Act play under the guidance of an experienced mentor director. "THE MONKEY’S PAW": W. W. Jacob's classic about a mummified monkey's paw that bestows three wishes on its new owner. A married couple first wishes to test the efficacy of the talisman. Their second wish brings their dead son back from the grave. Then, at the height of a thunderstorm in the dead of night, comes a knock at the door -- and their third wish. "STUPID GHOST": The Ghost lived in the woods, Minding Her Own Business and definitely Not Haunting Anyone, until one day she saw a Pretty Girl and followed her home. It totally wasn’t even a thing. The Girl was probably not even going to notice. A comedy about ruining the lives of the people you love. "MARIE ANTOINETTE’S HEAD": In this campy comedy we follow Marie Antoinette’s hair dresser, Leonardo, as he pursues Marie’s severed head across time and space. Rate: Due to the educational focus of this program, this is an unpaid opportunity. Additional info: Please prepare two monologues of contrasting styles. Rehearsals will take place in November and December, generally on weekday evenings, and weekends according to cast availability. Each one-act will rehearse approximately 8 hours each week (2 hours four times a week) until tech week. Performances: Dec 18-20, 7:30pm. Two one-acts will be performed each night on a rotating basis. The final schedule will be determined once tech needs are finalized. Each one-act will perform twice. An EXAMPLE schedule is -Dec 18 - The Monkey’s Paw & Stupid Ghost -Dec 19 - Marie Antoinette’s Head & The Monkey’s Paw -Dec 20 - Stupid Ghost & Marie Antoinette’s Head If you are interested, please apply.
