Performers Needed for Theatre Audition "Unnecessary Farce"

Saint Peters, MO, United States
ID: 294182Exp: 12/8/2025
Description:

"Unnecessary Farce" play casting actors. ONLY LOCAL TALENT WILL BE CONSIDERED. See more info below. About the project: Summary: Two cops. Three crooks. Eight doors. Go. In this award-winning modern farce, what begins as a simple sting operation in a cheap motel spirals into complete chaos. Two rookie cops set out to catch a corrupt mayor meeting with his accountant, but nothing goes according to plan and within minutes, everything unravels. The wrong people end up in the wrong rooms, the hidden camera is pointed at the wrong suspects, pants keep disappearing, and—just when things can’t get worse—a Scottish hitman storms in, growing more incomprehensible and hilarious, the angrier he gets. Eric Sheridan, the strait-laced officer, finds himself losing his composure—and his pants—at the worst possible moments. His eager partner, Billie Dwyer, well, she can’t quite figure out how to work a gun, a door, or the hidden camera, but she throws herself into the job with boundless enthusiasm and epic clumsiness. Karen Brown, the prim and precise accountant, is determined to keep order—yet somehow ends up in a heap on the floor with her clothes and her composure equally undone. Meanwhile, sweet Mayor Meekly seems far too innocent to be guilty of anything, while his diminutive wife Mary may be hiding more than her soft-spoken nature lets on. Agent Frank, the supposedly tough head of security, goes from bluster to full-on panic attack at the first sign of trouble. And then there’s Todd—the gruff Scottish hitman whose accent thickens as his temper rises, until no one can understand a word he’s saying. Paul Slade Smith’s Unnecessary Farce is pure comic mayhem: slamming doors, tangled romances, mistaken identities, and chaos that builds to delirious heights. It’s fast, physical, and ridiculously funny. For actors, it’s a goldmine of opportunities: razor-sharp timing, big physical gags, and the joy of playing characters who are in way over their heads. This is farce at its finest—absurd, clever, and guaranteed to keep audiences laughing until the final blackout. Additional info: Age ranges are flexible and fluid and represent stage ages only. No monologues required. Auditions will consist of readings from the script. Callbacks (by invitation) on Wednesday, December 10. 7 roles

Eric SheridanMale30-39 y.o.All ethnicities

A bookish, even-keeled police officer who finds himself in way over his head—and occasionally without his pants. Eric is earnest, intelligent, and determined, but his calm exterior hides just how rattled he is by the chaos unfolding around him. A perfect role for someone with strong timing and a gift for playing the straight man amidst absurdity.

Billie DwyerFemale20-39 y.o.All ethnicities

Eric’s rookie partner, eager to prove herself but lacking even the most basic police skills. Billie is full of energy, sincerity, and misplaced confidence, making her a lovable but disastrous cop. This role is highly physical and perfect for a comedic actress who can lean into slapstick with heart.

Karen BrownFemale30-39 y.o.All ethnicities

A professional, polished accountant who suddenly can’t keep her composure. Caught in the chaos, her veneer of control slips away, revealing a passionate, unpredictable side—complete with wardrobe mishaps. Karen requires quick shifts between poise and comic panic.

Mayor MeeklyMale50-79 y.o.All ethnicities

The sweet and bumbling mayor, who exudes innocence with every word and gesture. While he seems incapable of wrongdoing, his presence in the tangled mess of lies keeps everyone on edge. A great role for a character actor who can charm the audience while fueling the mystery.

Mrs. Mary MeeklyFemale50-79 y.o.All ethnicities

The mayor’s petite, sweet-natured wife. At first glance she’s gentle and unassuming, but her presence adds new twists to the story. A smaller but pivotal role that calls for warmth and impeccable comic timing.

Agent FrankMale20-59 y.o.All ethnicities

Town Hall’s head of security. Gruff, confident, and eager to assert control—until crisis reveals him as easily frightened and totally ineffective. This character is bold, funny, and ripe for big swings in tone from bluster to panic.

ToddMale20-59 y.o.All ethnicities

A professional hitman with a thick Scottish accent that grows increasingly indecipherable as he gets angrier. Todd is menacing yet hilarious, with the accent itself becoming a running joke. Requires an actor adept with physicality, excellent Scottish dialect, and comic intimidation.
