Theater Casting Call for "The Drowning Girls" Play
ONLY LOCAL TALENT WILL BE ACCEPTED. Seeking female performers for production of "The Drowning Girls". More details are below. About the play: "The Drowning Girls" is a compelling, non-linear and theatrical telling of 3 women’s stories of their lives, loves, marriages, societal expectations and murders in the early years of the 20th century. Bessie, Alice and Margaret were three real-life wives of George Joseph Smith, an Edwardian opportunist who thrived by exploiting women. These ghostly brides emerge from the tubs where they were drowned by their husband, to gather evidence of Smith’s womanizing, violent ways and murderous intentions. Their separate stories go beyond the grave to achieve an element of catharsis in their combined realization of why things transpired as they did. Narration, role-play, and re-enactment are used to create a fascinating mix of the historical, the eerie, the tragic, the humour and the social commentary at the heart of their tales. As this is a strong ensemble piece, actors will be expected to participate in generous team-work with other cast and crew members.
