4 role s

HUNTERBoth genders18-56 y.o.All ethnicities

Male presenting. Hunter is an impulsive and intense writer, driving the show's creation and often fueling tensions. He's a larger-than-life character, yet somewhat directionless, needing both prompting and reigning in. He portrays a wide array of moods and has impressive stamina, making him the show's driving force.

JEFFBoth genders18-56 y.o.All ethnicities

Male presenting. Jeff is a meticulous and talented composer, serving as a foil to Hunter's enthusiasm. He's resistant to Hunter's wild ideas, often offering sharp rebukes, and ultimately defends the musical's integrity against commercial pressures. He delivers lines with pedantry, sarcasm, and innocent optimism.

HEIDIBoth genders18-56 y.o.All ethnicities

Female presenting, Mezzo-Soprano. Heidi is the established performer of the group, a Broadway veteran in minor understudy roles. She's endearing with her friendly awkwardness and fits right in. Heidi's voice is prominently featured and should be the most polished and assured, often singing the upper part or melody, and she has a unique choice to make between her Broadway path and the group's risky venture.

SUSANBoth genders18-56 y.o.All ethnicities

Female presenting, Mezzo-Soprano. Susan is an office manager by day who views the show as a creative outlet. She's plagued by self-doubt, especially about her singing, and shields this with a loud, flamboyant attitude and madcap wit that perfectly meshes with Hunter's energy. Her featured material is often spoken or relatively straightforward, and her comic timing and style are key.
