Seeking Cast for Musical "Rent"
Auditions are now open for "Rent". In need of cast. ONLY LOCAL TALENT WILL BE CONSIDERED. See the breakdown below. About the project: Synopsis: Based loosely on Puccini’s La Bohème, Jonathan Larson’s Rent follows a year in the life of young artists in New York’s East Village as they pursue love, art, and community under the shadow of HIV/AIDS. At its heart, Rent is about chosen family and resilience. This production will intentionally center Queer and POC narratives, amplifying the voices and stories that shaped this community and remain deeply relevant today. Additional info: Cast size: medium – 18 performers. Casting: 8 principals, 8 ensemble U/S, 2 ensemble/covers. Auditions will consist of performing a 30 to 60 second vocal cut of a pop/rock music theatre song. Please prepare your audition cut and bring your marked sheet music with you – you’re welcome to sing a selection from the show. PLEASE NOTE: Set in New York City’s East Village in the late 1980s and early 1990s, RENT captures a community navigating love, loss, gentrification, and the AIDS crisis. Its themes of chosen family, Queer joy, resilience, and the fight for artistic and personal freedom remain urgent and vital today. At the same time, the show embodies hope, the belief that even in the face of struggle, community, love, and creativity can endure. This production will honor those legacies while amplifying their power for a new generation. Callbacks are scheduled for Saturday, October 11th from 10:00am – 12:00pm. Read Thru: December 29th.
