“Matilda" the Musical Casting Performers
Auditions for ‘Matilda’ show. Looking for cast. ONLY LOCAL TALENT WILL BE CONSIDERED. Please see the breakdown below. Additional info: The initial audition will consist of singing only. Rehearsals will be held regularly on Tuesdays/Thursdays from 6-9pm and Sundays from 1-5pm. Additionally, rehearsals will be held on a few select Fridays from 6-9pm. Tech week will begin on Sunday, November 16, and actors will need to be available every day that week, through the show’s closing on November 23. Performances will be held Thursday, November 20 - Sunday, November 23. Please note that not everyone will be needed for every rehearsal. Ensemble members and those with cameo/feature roles will typically rehearse 1-2x per week. Those with lead/principal roles will generally rehearse 2-3x per week. [Lead, singing range: D3-A4, tenor, comic actor]. Matilda's neglectful father. Loves television. Hates reading. Shady businessman.
[Lead, singing range: A3-F5, high belter, comic actor] Matilda's neglectful mother. Obsessed with her looks, and with dance competition.
[Lead, singing range: F3-D5, mezzo belter, leading lady). Matilda's kind, sweet teacher. Emotionally damaged, but resilient and supportive.
(Lead, singing range: A2-G4 or A3-G5, baritenor or mezzo, comic actor]. Principal of Crunchem Hall...and Miss Honey's aunt. Former Olympic athlete; also, a murderer. The role is written to be played by a man, but open to actors of any gender.
(Featured role, singing range: C3-E4, baritone, actor/dancer]. Character in Matilda's story...who turns out to be Miss Honey's father. Kindly, devoted.
[Featured role, singing range: D4-A4, mezzo, dancer/actor]. Character in Matilda's story...who turns out to be Miss Honey's mother. Kindly, graceful.
[Non-singing, featured role, non-singing, serious actor]. Librarian. Supportive, encouraging. Takes a genuine interest in Matilda and her stories.
[Featured role, singing range: D#3-A4, tenor, dancer/comic actor]. Mrs. Wormwood's ballroom dance partner. Suave, self-absorbed, flexible, phony, over-the-top physical comedy.
[Cameo feature, singing range: C3/F3-A4, tenor or alto]. Oversees Matilda's birth. In awe of the miracle of life. Strong, legit solo - establishes the ordinary world as it should be in the opening number.
[Cameo feature, singing range: F#3-Eb4, baritone or alto/mezzo] A sad clown. Provides social commentary on parents and children in the opening.
[Cameo feature, non-singing]. Assists doctor with the birth of Matilda.
[Cameo feature, non-singing]. Bakes chocolate cake for Miss Trunchbull and, on one fateful day, for Bruce.
[Cameo feature, comic actor]. A Russian mafia boss. Pursuing Matilda's father as a result of shady dealings.
[Cameo feature, comic actors]. Sergei's stooges. Eager to attack Mr. Wormwood.
[Featured ensemble, singing/dancing/some acting]. Battle-scarred contingent of Crunchem Hall's upper forms, these "kids" at turns warn and taunt Miss Honey's class. Substantive stage and rehearsal time.
