About the project: SYNOPSIS: In 1983, the crew of an air traffic control tower fall under the influence of an unseen malevolent presence. Leslie, newly promoted, is forced to confront her past when she recognizes the sounds that the eldritch horror broadcasts. A horror on the surface, this film is a story of queer love and self-acceptance at its core. Rate: Non-Union, Unpaid. Meals + Credit + Footage for Reel. Additional information: Location: Toronto, ON. Recently promoted to station supervisor, Leslie is a queer trans woman, carrying on an illicit affair with one of her coworkers, and is terrified of being outed in her workplace. An anxious but capable woman, she is determined to defend herself and the woman she loves from the mysterious force. NOTE: We are interested in receiving submissions from trans women for this role. If you are comfortable bringing your lived experience to this production, we’d love to hear from you.
Supporting. The crew’s kooky aunt and biggest flirt. Betsy is carrying on a secret relationship with her boss, Leslie, and desperately wants the world to know. Carefree but not careless, Betsy may be a gossip but would never endanger a friend. She is also the only one in the office with a real sense of style.
Supporting. God’s perfect idiot. Otto is a handsome, self-assured man. Everyone loves him, even though he’s usually late. Otto is the easiest crew member to influence, and is ultimately transformed into a hideous monster spouting words of guilt and humiliation.
Supporting, voice only. A mimicry of a traumatic memory. Elanor is the deceased mother of Leslie. Religious and bigoted, Elanor’s shameful words are used by a faceless monster in an attempt to break into Leslie’s steadfast mind.
