Abput the play: "Leading Ladies" is a fast-paced theatrical farce full of mistaken identities, rapid costume changes, physical comedy, and unexpected romance. Set in 1950s Pennsylvania, the play follows two down-on-their-luck English actors who attempt to pass themselves off as long-lost female relatives to inherit a fortune. Their plan quickly spirals into chaos as they navigate suspicious relatives, budding love interests, and their own unraveling disguises. This witty and high-energy comedy offers fantastic opportunities for bold character work, strong comedic timing, and physical humour. Additional information: Rehearsals begin Sunday, October 12th – 7pm. Weekly Schedule: Sunday, Monday, and Thursday evenings 7-9pm. Performance Dates: January 16th – February 1st, 2026 (9 shows). Cold reads will be used, both solo and in scenes with others. Some roles require cross-dressing and British accents. Experience in physical comedy is an asset. A clever and ambitious Shakespearean actor. Leo concocts the inheritance scheme and throws himself into the role of “Maxine” with flair and confidence. Must be comfortable with cross-dressing, accents, and physical comedy.
Leo’s best friend and acting partner. Jack is sweet-natured, nervous, and reluctantly joins the impersonation as “Stephanie.” Must be comfortable with cross-dressing, accents, and physical comedy.
Warm, intelligent, and curious. Meg is Florence’s niece, currently engaged to Duncan but dreams of adventure. Romantic lead with depth and charm. Should be comfortable with light Shakespearean text.
A lovable and slightly dim-witted young woman who works for Florence. She’s bubbly, optimistic, and eager to please. A great comedic role requiring innocence and strong physical humour.
A local minister and Meg’s conservative fiancé. He’s pompous, rigid, and increasingly suspicious of Leo and Jack. A foil to the absurdity around him. Dry humour and bluster are key.
Wealthy and strong-willed, Florence is thought to be on her deathbed, but proves tougher than expected. She’s feisty, opinionated, and fiercely independent. Requires a strong stage presence and comic precision.
A cantankerous but lovable country doctor. Direct and practical with a dry sense of humour. Florence’s longtime friend.
Doc’s son. Big-hearted and physically strong but not particularly sharp. In love with Audrey. Requires comfort with physical comedy and a sense of innocence.
