The Cardinal of Tuscany is a rebel in red robes. In his ballad “800 Souls” he wrestles with himself: Should I obey the Pope or Mussolini, or my own conscience? He’s secretly joined the Resistance but worries that his courageous acts will endanger the families that depend on him. Vocal range: baritone. PRINCIPAL ROLE. "GLORY RIDE"
A timid but lovable accountant who masterminds an ingenious plan to smuggle children to freedom. Great comic timing. Like Leo Bloom in The Producers, Nico is an inadvertently amusing introvert. Casting against type, we are looking for someone who is good-looking but does not realize it. Those who’ve portrayed Bob Gaudio in Jersey Boys might be a good fit. A powerful, complex role – Blackshirt leader and Gino's former best friend. Like Javert in Les Miserables, Carita tracks Gino’s moves and cracks down on freedom. Carita is a proud Italian nationalist. He’s convinced that he is doing the right thing – after all, by imposing his brand of fascism, he’s pacifying the Germans and keeping away the even more brutal Nazis. Cool, rebellious, Il Lupo is the head Partisan. He will go to any length to fight for freedom. Nothing to lose. Nothing to fear. Embodies a Santa like quality, dedicated to preserving the magic of life at sea, but has trouble facing harsh truths about prioritizing others over himself as he faces the end of his life. Baritone. Mid-30s. British, a driven and perfectionist captain from an upper-class naval family. Charismatic and capable, he is haunted by his father’s high expectations and his own insecurities. As the pressures of the voyage and his obsession with success mount, he begins to unravel, becoming increasingly ruthless and mirroring the harsh methods of his former superior. Baritone. Jamaican, loves being a sailor and part of the crew. Speaks a blend of Jamaican patois and English. Queer, a happy-go-lucky free spirit with a wise Jamaican proverb always in his back pocket. Igbo, born in Britain to an Igbo mother who was a former slave. He serves as second mate. Amicable but guarded, he’s mindful of racial issues and calls out discrimination when necessary. Brazilian, former slave. Tall, brawny, a gentle giant. Carpenter on board who is a selective mute due to the abuse he experienced as a lad on Captain Woodard’s ship. He is sensitive and has a strong emotional IQ that often goes unnoticed. Baritone. "THE CHEQUERBOARD WATCH"
