Moriko is subdued, obedient, and careful shaped by a childhood of walking on eggshells. Despite the constant belittling and contradictory expectations, Moriko has a hidden resilience that leads them to freedom.
Filiz is a warm spirited friend with a spark of wanderlust in his eyes. Teases with affection, he speaks with quiet wisdom, and pushes Moriko to believe in his dreams, to believe in a world beyond the village.
Mid 40s. A manipulative woman who uses her charms to benefit her and only her. She shows "love" to her adopted child Moriko, only when it benefits her.
A weathered blacksmith whose rough hands and rougher temper mask his fear of weakness. A bitter man who takes his anger out on his adopted child Moriko instead of the real object of his anger, his wife.
