Ottawa, ON, Canada

Description:

ONLY LOCAL TALENT WILL BE ACCEPTED. Actors needed for private reading of "Two For The Show' a new stage musical feature the songs of TROOPER. More details are below. About the project: One of the themes of Two For The Show is highlighted in the song The American Dream, says playwright Paul Kirby. The lure of success and fame south of the border is not a siren call which should always be heeded. “Written in the early '90s The American Dream is as pertinent today as it was 35 years ago.” Kirby is looking for six adults (gender not an issue) who will read and ‘perform’ the script (in private with no singing) to help him to continue to develop the characters and streamline the script to prepare it for submission to theaters and producers. Two For The Show is a new stage musical featuring the songs of iconic West Coast band Trooper, all of which were written by Brian Smith and Ra McGuire. It follows the life and music of Bob Turner from the early days of minor success in Toronto’s Yorkville clubs along with his brother Jim, to a chequered solo career and chaotic personal life. Kirby conceived the show and wrote the script. The tunes include well-known hits such as General Hand Grenade, Raise a Little Hell, We’re Here for a Good Time (not a long time), Oh Pretty Lady, 3 Dressed up as a Nine, Thin White Line, The American Dream, Janine, Two for the Show, and more. “This musical has great potential,” says Kirby “for any size theater. The cast is small, the set is small, the songs are big.” He adds that the audience does not need to know the songs to enjoy the show as they are universal in theme. The genesis of Two for the Show lies in the life of singer/actor Bobby Darin. A favorite singer of Kirby, Paul wrote to Darin’s manager, Steve Blauner, in the 1990s, to seek permission to write a musical about Darin’s life. To Paul’s surprise Blauner called Paul out-of-blue from California to talk about the script and told Paul he could go ahead. A week or so later a letter arrived in the mail giving Paul permission to use Darin’s songs. If interested, please apply.
