Auditions for Musical "A Christmas Story"

Janesville, WI, United States
ID: 291811Exp: 9/15/2025
Description:

Actors needed for "A Christmas Story" Show. Please see the details below. ONLY LOCAL TALENT WILL BE ACCEPTED. About the project: Based on the perennial holiday movie favorite, and from the Songwriting team behind the smash-Broadway hit, DEAR EVAN HANSEN, and the film LA LA LAND, we bring you the hilarious musical, A CHRISTMAS STORY, THE MUSICAL. This now-classic story follows bespectacled Ralphie Parker as he schemes his way toward the holiday gift of his dreams, an official Red Ryder® Carbine-Action 200-Shot Range Model Air Rifle (“You’ll shoot your eye out kid!”). An infamous leg lamp, outrageous pink bunny pajamas, a maniacal department store Santa, and a freezing flagpole are just a few of the distractions that stand between Ralphie and his Christmas wish. Additional info: Please prepare a 30-60-second cut of a song in the show's style. If you prefer an accompanist, the directors will have one on site. If you prefer to use a track, you may bring it with you, and they will have a Bluetooth speaker ready for you to use. Directors will choose one of the audition sides included in the attached packet for you to read during your audition. You may bring in a résumé or fill out a list of previous show experience upon arrival. Please come with any scheduling conflicts from now through the end of December. Production dates: Friday, December 5 - Sunday, December 7, 2025 Friday, December 12 - Sunday, December 14, 2025 (School matinee performances on December 4 & 5) If interested, please apply.

8 roles

Narrator / Jean ShepherdMale40-69 y.o.All ethnicities

The actual Jean Shepherd is the author of the books this story is based on, as well as the voice of the narrator in the 1983 film. A warm, charismatic, and engaging storyteller. An omniscient, good-natured curmudgeon with a deadpan sense of humor. Jean focuses the action, keeps the story moving, and holds the audience’s attention with his presence and spark. Non-singing role.

The Old ManMale30-49 y.o.All ethnicities

Ralphie’s father — gruff and grumbly, yet with a good heart and deep love for his family. Quick to show his frustrations but not above enjoying a little showmanship. Vocal Range: B♭2 to G4

MotherFemale30-49 y.o.All ethnicities

Ralphie’s mother, the glue that holds the household together. Calm under pressure despite her husband and children’s antics. Warm, vibrant, and affable, but not a pushover. Vocal Range: G3 to D♭5

Miss ShieldsFemale30-59 y.o.All ethnicities

Ralphie’s 5th-grade teacher. A stereotypical 1940s educator — prim, proper, stern when necessary, but capable of warmth and humor. Must tap dance or be willing to learn. Vocal Range: F#3 to D5

SantaMale30-69 y.o.All ethnicities

The Santa Claus at Higbee’s Department Store. Ill-tempered, slightly inebriated, and unhappy with his job — a stark contrast to the “Jolly Old Elf” of Christmas lore. Vocal Range: B♭2 to F4
