Performers Needed for Theatre Audition "Luv"
Playhouse will be holding auditions for the modern comedy "Luv". Seeking actors. Please see more info below. About the project: Synopsis: LUV is an absurd comedy. When the playwright was asked to explain the title he said, “The emotion of love has been perverted and misused to such an extent that it can only be defined by using another word, L-u-v is the perversion of l-o-v-e.” When the play opens, we see Harry Berlin, a beatnik who has sunk so low that honest beatniks would disown him. He has no future except to jump off the bridge and is about to do so when Milt Manville, an old college buddy, comes along and interrupts him, “Is it…. (Harry turns, stares down at him.) No. Harry Berlin! It thought so! I just caught a glimpse of you, and I said to myself, I bet that’s Harry Berlin. I just bet that’s Harry Berlin. And sure enough, it’s old Harry Berlin himself.” Milt seems to be the polar opposite of Harry, impeccably dressed, driven and upbeat, a picture of prosperity with a perfect life. We later learn that this is only an act and Milt is also full of frustration, because his wife, Ellen, won’t release him to marry a girl from his office he professes to be madly in love with. Milt then comes up with the brilliant idea to introduce his wife to Harry so they can fall in love, and he will be free. Their quest for love in all its neurotic glory and pain ensues. Setting: A park in New York beside a bridge in the 1960’s. The railing of the bridge crosses up stage. Additional info: All roles are open. Readings will be from the script. Performances are two weekends, October 9th through the 19th. If you are interested, please apply.
