About the project: Somewhere Together is a sung-through musical created mainly by college students. The film explores 5 apartments in an apartment building before it catches fire, thrusting everyone, of different backgrounds, ages, and classes, into a stairwell running for their lives. Somewhere Together spotlights various identities and social groups throughout the United States and aims to emphasize the importance of community and support. The first apartment, Apartment #78, centers around a Deaf Black boy being fostered by a Taiwanese American/White family. Heated arguments erupt when the child’s disabilities are misunderstood; putting into question what’s best for the boy and the family. The fourth apartment, Apartment #1, centers around a family from the Akwesasne Mohawk reservation working together to pay rent. Conflict arises when the youngest daughter avoids familial responsibilities in order to pursue her passion for creative writing. The Penthouse: In an asset management company party, guests of the top 1% fight to connect with the CEO whilst the back of house struggle to manage their extravagant orders.
