Performers Needed for Musical "Hair"

Male Presenting. A sweet, gentle, and thoughtful dreamer, torn between the expectations of mainstream society and the free-spirited, rebellious world of the Tribe. Charismatic but conflicted, he’s searching for his identity and purpose while facing the looming Vietnam War draft. (Tenor, range: A2-A4)

Male Presenting. Bold, unpredictable, magnetic. The wild and raunchy “showman” of the tribe. Very comfortable in his body. Demands strong comedic timing, charisma, and stamina. (Baritone/Tenor, range: A2-G4)

Female Presenting. A passionate, politically active young woman and leader of the anti-war movement. Intelligent, idealistic, and strong-willed, yet tender and deeply caring. She’s part of the Tribe but often feels torn between her love for Berger and her dedication to changing the world. (Mezzo/Belter, range: G3-C5)

Male Presenting. Cool, confident, and charismatic, Hud is a proud Black man and a vital member of the Tribe. Witty and bold, he brings humor, swagger, and pointed social commentary to the group’s freewheeling vibe. Must command the stage with style and soul. (Baritone, range: A2-C4)

Female Presenting. A vibrant, soulful, and strong-willed member of the Tribe. Dionne opens the show with powerful vocals and sets the tone for the energy and spirit of the group. She’s confident, fun, and full of life, with a sharp sense of humor and a big heart. (Powerful Belter, range: G3-F5)

Male Presenting. Eccentric, playful, and open-minded. Flirtatious and ambiguously sexual. Must be comfortable with physicality, suggestive material, and improvisation. (Tenor, range: C3-G4)

Female Presenting. A spacey, sweet, pregnant hippie who loves Claude. Represents nurturing love and idealism. Strong comedic instincts and quirky charm required. (Mezzo/Soprano, range: Bb3-C5)

Female Presenting. Sweet, innocent, and slightly naive, Crissy is a young flower child full of wide-eyed wonder and youthful optimism. She wears her heart on her sleeve and longs for love and connection. Her song “Frank Mills” reveals her tender, quirky side. (Soprano, range: B3-D5)

Female Presenting (Drag). A delightfully quirky, out-of-place older character (traditionally played by a man in drag). Margaret is an uptight, curious outsider who encounters the Tribe and is both bewildered and fascinated by their free-spirited ways. A comedic cameo role with great character work and surprise charm. Vocal range: flexible, comedic singing.

1 Male Presenting, 1 Female Presenting. Play multiple roles such as Claude’s Mother and Father, military officials, and other establishment characters. These comedic cameo roles are often played with broad, satirical humor to highlight the absurdity and rigidity of the older generation. Strong comedic timing, physical character work, and versatility are key. Vocal range: flexible; character singing.

All tribe members sing and move throughout. Looking for expressive, diverse individuals across all gender identities, races, and body types. Many ensemble members will be featured with solos, lines, and movement highlights. Tribe members should be comfortable with physical improvisation, vulnerability, and ensemble storytelling.
