About the project: In October of 1780, European immigrants and African slaves at Catoctin Furnace, Maryland, are struggling to produce the final shipment of shells that will, ultimately, be fired at the decisive Battle of Yorktown when word reaches the community that Pennsylvania will abolish slavery. Audiences will immerse themselves in personal stories unfold against the backdrop of Catoctin Furnace’s rich Revolutionary War era history--performed at site-specific locations around Catoctin Furnace. James JohnsonMale36-49 y.o.White / Caucasian

Principal Role. The ironmaster at Catoctin Furnace and one of its co-owners, James Johnson has been reluctant to produce munitions for the Continental Army. Although he is as much a patriot as his brother Thomas, James questions if the Continental Congress will be able to pay for the 31 tons of shells the Continental Army has requisitioned. Minimum pay: $350.00.

General David Poe Sr.Male30-49 y.o.White / Caucasian

Principal Role. General Poe is the Assistant Deputy Quartermaster who has come to the furnace to oversee the production of the final installment of shells due on October 15, 1780. He is responsible for escorting the final shipment to Baltimore. He speaks with a slight Irish accent. Minimum pay: $350.00.

Johann SchlegelMale20-34 y.o.White / Caucasian

Principal Role. Johann is the son of Brother Schlegel, the Moravian minister preaching to the population of immigrants and slaves at Catoctin Furnace. Johann returns from Bethlehem, Pennsylvania, with the news that Pennsylvania will abolish slavery. He speaks with a slight German accent. Minimum pay: $350.00.

Rachel JohnsonFemale36-54 y.o.African-American

Principal Role. Rachel, an African slave, works as a maid in James Johnson’s household. She is Isaac’s mother and tries to discourage him from running away. Rachel is kind and pragmatic but fiercely protective of her son. Minimum pay: $350.00.

Jeremiah BowlesMale26-49 y.o.White / Caucasian

Principal Role. Jeremiah is the founder at Catoctin Furnace. Although he comes from a family loyal to the British Crown, he is now involved in supporting the Patriot cause. When he is blackmailed by a Loyalist saboteur, Jeremiah must betray the man who entrusted him with a position of leadership at the furnace. Minimum pay: $350.00.

Josef BöhringerMale26-54 y.o.White / Caucasian

Principal Role. Josef is the keeper (the assistant to the founder) at Catoctin Furnace. He is a competent, experienced ironworker. Minimum pay: $350.00.

Franz HuberMale26-44 y.o.White / Caucasian

Principal Role. Franz is a former Hessian soldier, who escaped when his unit was imprisoned in Fredericktown in 1778. A hard worker, he is new to ironmaking. He speaks with a strong German accent. Minimum pay: $350.00.

Principal Role. Addison, a fervent loyalist, infiltrates the furnace community as an ironworker and blackmails Jeremiah Bowles into an attempt to sabotage the furnace to prevent the successful completion of the final shipment of shells. Minimum pay: $350.00.
