Theater Casting Call for "A Christmas Carol" Play

About the play: This play is based on the classic Charles Dickens’ tale of the miser Ebenezer Scrooge and his journey of redemption as he is visited by the ghost of his business partner, Jacob Marley, and 3 Spirits on a Christmas evening in Victorian England. We join Scrooge as he is shown a variety of Christmases of the past, present, and future. We are introduced to people who have been affected by his actions and discover that the Spirit of Christmas is powerful and always have the opportunity to change for the better. Additional information: The auditions will begin at the beginning of the alotted timeslot and will be in 5-10 minute slots until everyone has been seen. Once you have signed up, you will receive an email with your time slot. Rehearsals will be held on Tuesdays and Thursday nights 6 PM to 9 PM. Sundays afternoons (2pm -5pm) will initially be held for specific scene/characters work and/or learning the choreography for those in the dance numbers. However, everyone will be expected to attend as directors get closer to the show dates. The rehearsal schedule will be detailed and specific to scenes and characters. Not everyone will be required at every rehearsal. Tech week and performances will be held in the Sooke. Tech week begins on Sunday, Nov. 23rd. Ebenezer Scrooge is portrayed by three different people at different times throughout his life. We see him as a young boy, a young man, and as a much older man. Ebenezer Scrooge (M): (late 50s-70s): principal character. Bitter miser who comes to understand the meaning of Christmas. He is in every scene except Act 1,SC. 1) Young Boy Scrooge (M): (9-12 yrs) nice, polite, studious. (Act 1,SC. 5) Young Man Scrooge (M): (18-22 yrs) positive, happy, full of life and promise.
Scrooge's Nephew. Son of Scrooge's beloved sister, Fanny. Open-hearted, family-oriented, loves Christmas and everything it symbolizes. (Act 1, SC 1, 2, Act 2, SC. 3, 10)
Fred's Wife. Enjoys games, cheerful, disapproves of some of Scrooge's uncharitable behaviours. (Act 2, SC. 3,10)

Jacob Marley is Scrooge's business partner. He has two roles in this play: as the ghost and as a much younger man. Often these are portrayed by two different actors.

The Three Spirits visit Scrooge and show him moments from different Christmases. Each leads him to consider a different way of being. The Spirits are not gendered and can be played by any age. Ethereal, solemn, challenges Scrooge's thinking.(Act 1, Sc. 4, 5, 6, 7, 8)
