About the project: Steven Dietz's 1996 stage adaptation of Dracula closely follows the original novel's narrative while enhancing its theatrical elements. The play begins with Renfield, a mysterious patient in an insane asylum, who serves as both a narrator and a character under Dracula's influence. The story then shifts to Jonathan Harker's journey to Transylvania to assist Count Dracula with a real estate transaction in England. Harker soon realizes he's imprisoned in Dracula's castle and becomes a prisoner. Back in England, Dracula arrives and begins to exert his influence over Lucy Westenra, leading to her transformation into a vampire. Her friend Mina Murray, along with Lucy's suitors—Dr. John Seward, Professor Van Helsing, and others—work together to confront Dracula and save their loved ones.
