Casting Singers who Act for "The Little Prince" Light Opera
Seeking performers for "The Little Prince", a light opera based on the novel by Antoine de Saint-Exupéry. ONLY LOCAL TALENT WILL BE CONSIDERED. See more info below. Rate: Unpaid. Additional info: Both classical and musical theatre singers welcome. Note: Actors cast in small roles like the King, the Well, and the Drunkard may be asked to double other parts. All actors sing with the ensemble at some points. Please prepare two contrasting song excerpts that show off your singing and acting abilities. Directors apologize for the inconvenience, but there will not be a piano accompanist present for auditions; please bring a recorded accompaniment track, and they will play it for you. You may also send singing videos in lieu of an in-person audition. In that case, however, you may be asked to attend callbacks in person at a later date. Performances will be October 4th and 5th, 2025. If you are interested, please apply.
14 roles
(baritone, male-presenting). Serving as narrator, and based somewhat on the author, the Pilot is onstage for almost the entire show, so the role requires compelling acting as well as singing. He is caring, resourceful, and imaginative (for a grown-up), but he does not know as much as he thinks he does. After his airplane crashes in the desert, the Pilot learns from the Prince how to see what is most important.
(soprano, young, female-presenting). Rather silly, vain, and sweet. Happy in her ignorance, she believes nothing can harm her; and although she loves the Prince, she cannot bring herself to say so until it is too late.
(mezzo-soprano, female-presenting). Curious and clever, but unexpectedly passionate at times. The Fox convinces the Prince to tame her, then teaches him the most important lesson of all: Eyes are blind, look only with the heart.
(tenor/soprano). Seductive and dangerous. Speaks in riddles because it knows all the answers. Is not really good or evil--or, if it is, you can’t tell which.
(bass, male-presenting). A stereotypical sort of monarch who sits on a throne and rules over a tiny planet, although he is convinced he rules the rest of the universe as well.
(high tenor, male-presenting). A man obsessed with being admired. Must have the stamina to dance while singing high notes, sometimes through a kazoo.
(tenor/soprano). The name of the character tells you pretty much everything you need to know.
(baritone, male-presenting). A man who spends all his time counting the stars and listing them as his property.
(tenor/soprano). A rather mysterious and dutiful person who has the task of lighting a lamp when the sun sets, and putting it out when the sun rises. Unfortunately, over the years their planet’s rotation has been getting faster and faster, so now they have to light and put out the lamp every couple of minutes.
(high soprano). The beautiful and wordless voice of a well in the middle of the desert. May not be visible to the audience.
