Elegant young bohemian believed to have psychic sensitivity. Lighthearted, open-minded, and charismatic, she always stops just short of true intimacy.

Anthropologist who believes in parapsychology. Rented Hill House for the summer and seeks to learn Hill House’s secretes away from the judgmental eyes of his colleagues. He is in a loveless marriage.

Smart, easy-mannered, handsome member of the family that owns Hill House. Quick to joke and sunny-side even frightening events. Older than Eleanor and Theodora, but only from a calendar’s perspective. Very adolescent in many ways.

Does not respect her husband’s work or methodology, hence his guests. Only trust and respects Arthur Parker and is determined to discover Hill House’s secrets by communicating directly with paranormal inhabitants. Though married to Dr. Montague, she is implicitly involved with Arthur Parker.

Mrs. Montague’s traveling companion and implicit lover. Tactless, imposing man who only listens to Mrs. Montague.
