Auditions for "The Pillowman" play. Actors wanted. Please see more info below. About the project: The Pillowman by Martin McDonagh is a darkly compelling drama centered on Katurian, a writer in a totalitarian state, who is interrogated when his disturbing short stories bear eerie similarities to a series of local child murders. Blending grim humor, horror, and storytelling, the play explores the power of narrative, the nature of artistic responsibility, and the haunting line between fiction and reality. Additional info: Auditions will consist of readings from the play. Audition material is attached. Once auditions are over, the cast will be contacted personally to confirm their roles. Show dates: Friday 10/03/2025, Saturday 10/04/2025, and Sunday 10/05/2025. Sunday will have two shows, one being a ticketed understudy run. If you are interested, please apply.

A troubled and nervous writer who is questioned about their grim stories. They are witty, artistic, and accommodating. Requires a strong narration voice and presence. Role involves several scenes of physical violence.

TupolskiBoth genders18-56 y.o.All ethnicities

Lead detective in the investigation of a series of child murders. Self-described “Good Cop” they are cruel, confident and manipulative. Highly charismatic. Role involves several scenes of physical violence.

ArielFemale18-56 y.o.All ethnicities

Hot tempered and violent partner of Tupolski. This role has very heavy themes involving SA and trauma. Role involves several scenes of physical violence.

MichalMale18-56 y.o.All ethnicities

The developmentally challenged brother of Katurian. This character has a child like personality with a dark twist.

Puppeteers/EffectsBoth genders18-56 y.o.All ethnicities

This is a unique role comprised of 3 to 4 on stage actors. They will work the shadow puppet sections of the play, and the immersive effects that take place throughout the story. These are very important roles to the special take on this story.

UnderstudiesBoth genders18-56 y.o.All ethnicities

There will be an understudy for each of the 4 speaking roles. Ideally, they will also be cast as the puppeteers but director is not married to that idea. The plan is to have 1 understudy rehearsal a week. The understudies will have a ticketed show on Sunday that they can perform in if they feel prepared.
