About the project: The setting is a squalid farm home occupied by a family filled with suppressed violence and an unease born of deep-seated unhappiness. The characters are a blend of the worst parts of middle America mixed with alcohol and guilt. Into their midst comes Vince, a grandson none of them recognizes or remembers, and his girlfriend, Shelly, who cannot comprehend the madness to which she is suddenly introduced. The family harbors a dark secret that is waiting for some sort of purge in hopes of a new beginning that will wash away their dark sin. Dodge is the alcoholic patriarch of the family. He is in his 70s and is dying.
Tilden is the family's none-too-bright oldest son. A former athlete, he is the father of Vince and of the buried child, one of which was conceived with his mother.
Bradley is the family's middle son. He lost his leg in a chainsaw accident. (Actor must be comfortable with restricted movement to signify the loss of his leg).
Halie is the matriarch of the family. She is the mother of Bradley, Tilden, and Ansel. She is only heard from off stage in the first act.
Vince, also called Vincent. He is Tilden's son, but he has not been seen by the family for at least six years. his arc is significant as he falls deeper into the madness of the family's secrets.
Shelly is Vince's girlfriend. She is a sensible woman who knows when to cut her losses and leave. Her amusement of the zany family quickly disappears when she realizes things are not always as they seem.
