"August: Osage County" Audition for the Theater
"August: Osage County" play needs actors. Please see the breakdown below. About the project: August: Osage County is a tragicomedy that explores the dysfunctional Weston family as they confront dark secrets and personal demons following the disappearance of their patriarch, Beverly Weston. Additional info: Anyone wishing to audition must appear, in person. Directors are not accepting online or taped submissions. Please bring a resume and headshot, if available, to the audition. Be familiar with the character you are auditioning for. Sides will be provided at the auditions. Please be prepared to note any and all conflicts that you may have from mid-July through the week before the show. Callbacks, if needed, will take place on July 1 from 7-9 PM. Rehearsals will begin mid-July. The show dates are September 26, 27, October 3,4,10, and 11@7 PM and September 28, October 5 and October 12 @ 2 PM. All performers are required to be at each show. The matriarch. Sharp tongued, deeply addicted to pills and suffering from cancer. Complex, fierce and emotionally volatile.
Violet’s husband. A once promising poet who has succumbed to alcoholism and disillusionment. Seen briefly in the first scene.
Eldest Weston daughter. Smart, strong and bitter from her failed marriage. She tries to keep the family together but can barely hold herself together.
Barbara’s estranged husband. A college professor. Intellectual and weary with a strained relationship with Barbara.
(To portray 14-16 y.o). A moody, pot smoking teenager caught in the family drama. Auditioners for this role must be 18 years of age but appear younger.
The middle Weston daughter. Quiet, emotionally repressed and secretly involved with her cousin, Little Charles.
The youngest daughter. Flighty, self- absorbed and desperately optimistic. Engaged to Steve.
Karen’s slick, manipulative fiancé. A businessman with predatory tendencies.
Loud, controlling and sarcastic. Holds a key family secret.
Mattie Fae’s long-suffering husband. Warm and good natured, but eventually reaches his limit.
Mattie Fae and Charlie’s son. Awkward and insecure but kind hearted. Struggles with self-worth and family expectations.
The quiet, watchful live-in housekeeper. Observant, resilient and ultimately a calming presence amid the chaos. Please be aware that the character is written as NATIVE AMERICAN and that it is mentioned several times throughout the script. Looking for a DIPOC actor.
Sheriff of Osage County whose primary duty is to deliver the news of Beverly’s death to the family.
