About the project: "Preying Mantis" is a dark comedy thriller centered around Thomas, an awkward and hopeful young man, who meets the enigmatic and seductive Alannah for a date. What begins as a socially uncomfortable but charming dinner quickly takes a sinister turn when Alannah reveals she's the notorious serial killer dubbed the "Preying Mantis"—and Thomas may be her next victim. Faced with an absurd choice—have sex with Alannah and be killed afterward, or walk away—Thomas spirals into a hilarious existential crisis. He seeks counsel from a ragtag group of immature and wildly unhelpful friends via video chat, and even a random wise old man in a bathroom, all offering conflicting advice. A metaphorical and literal predator who toys with her prey before offering them a choice: death or desire. Personality: Confident, self assured, mysterious, seductive, darkly humorous, brat, it girl.
Personality: Nervous, eager to impress, socially awkward but earnest. Desperate for connection and validation, especially from women and his male peers. Torn between logic and desire. Desperate to impress and painfully reliant on the opinions of others Arc: Starts off as a hopeful but unsure man on a date, gradually descends into moral confusion when faced with a life-or-death sexual proposition.
Personality: Dual-natured: begins as a wise mentor figure who warns against wasting life, but instantly switches sides upon seeing Alannah’s beauty. Hypocritical and pathetic beneath his composed surface. Serves as an exaggerated cautionary tale. Starts as a moral sage and mentor. Becomes another horny, washed-up bro.
