"Hairspray" Musical Casting Performers
Audition notice for the "Hairspray". In need of adult vocalists/actors/dancers. ONLY LOCAL TALENT WILL BE CONSIDERED. See more info below. Rate: Every eligible actor will receive a paid travel stipend at the end of the show’s run. The Theatre, when needed, will offer equity guest contracts to members of the union and contracts for professional actors. Additional info: This is an Equal Opportunity Theatre, and directors encourage performers of all ethnicities to audition. Please do not disqualify yourself on the basis of type, race, or physicality. Music from the show, scenes, or choreography will be taught at the night of auditions. Some performers may be asked to attend callbacks on the same night of their audition. Vocal sides will be sent in advance of the audition date, and after directors have confirmed your appointment. Rehearsal Dates: July 6th- August 14th . Rehearsals are generally Sunday through Thursday 6:30pm-10:30pm). (Mandatory Tech Week: August 10th- August 14th) Performance Dates: August 15th - September 7th (Friday- 8:00pm show, Saturday- 2:00pm & 8:00pm shows, Sunday- 2:00pm show) *NOTE* Directors may add additional performances including Thursday evenings at a later date. When applying, please include your SATB vocal part, preferred date and time (Sunday, June 22nd, 5pm-10pm or Monday, June 23rd, 5pm-10pm), and performer headshot. In person auditions will have first consideration of casting; however, performers traveling further than 90 miles from The Theatre may submit a virtual audition. If you would like to submit a virtual audition please include a headshot, theatre resume, a vocal selection from the show, and dance reel (if applicable) by Saturday, June 21st. Please include if there are any specific roles you’d like to be considered for, if you would be willing to accept any other role, if you have any conflicts throughout the run, and if you would require housing if available.

Mezzo-Soprano (G3-G5). Our story’s unsuspecting protagonist, she is large and in charge. Confident, talented, and incredibly determined. A romantic with a good heart and desire to cut up the dance floor. Always on top of the latest trends. Female Identifying.
Tenor - (D3-A4). The charismatic host of the Corny Collins' Show. Good looking and smooth talking, he is a genuinely nice guy both on and off camera. Male Identifying.
Bari/Tenor (F3-G5). Tracy's big and blonde mother. She is a working housewife who has lost her confidence and dream to be a plus-size clothing designer. Boisterous and commanding. Often played by a male in drag. Male Identifying portraying a Female.
Mezzo - Soprano - (A3-G5). Tracy's best friend and dorky sidekick. Not the brightest girl, but she has good intentions. Bursting to get free of her mother's dominating control, she falls for Seaweed with childlike curiosity. Female Identifying.
Mezzo-Soprano (G3-E5). Amber's mother and the director of Corny Collin's show. She is a devious taskmaster and snobby racist. The former Miss Baltimore Crabs will go to any length to ensure her daughter is the next big thing. Female Identifying.
Mezzo-Soprano (A3-F5). Link's girlfriend and Tracy's nemesis. She is pretty, thin, shallow, snobby, and racist. Can't dance but is expected to win Miss Baltimore Hairspray. Always feels the need to be the center of attention. Female Identifying.
High-Baritone (G3-A5). The star heartthrob on Corny Collins' show. He is extremely attractive and talented. Hoping to get his big break with a recording contract, he unexpectedly falls for Tracy. Male Identifying.
Tenor, Strong Falsetto (F3-D5). Tracy's classmate and friend, who is discriminated against due to his skin color. He is cocky but surprisingly lovable. Talented in song and dance. He falls for Penny. Male Identifying.
Alto (F3-E5). Seaweed and Little Inez's mother, she also appears as the Guest DJ on the Corny Collin's Negro Day show. Big, blonde, beautiful and proud of it. She is sassy and confident. Female Identifying.
Baritone (D4-B4). Tracy's simpleminded and kind father. He owns a joke shop and supports his daughter in spite of everything else. He also loves his wife, Edna, very much. Male Identifying.
