About the project: Grieving over a recent personal tragedy, June, a Chinese-Canadian migrant, decides to buy a one-way ticket back home and give up on the possibility of life in Canada. When she tries to say goodbye to her long-time partner, hidden attachments are revealed. "What the River Remembers explores what is gained and lost through the process of migration. Rate: Non union. Paid. Additionall information: No previous acting experience required. Producton dates: July 6-7, 2025 in Calgary, AB. Accepting submissions until June 6, 2025. Chinese. Ability to speak Mandarin is an asset, not a necessity, ability to speak English with an accent is an asset): June is a young Chinese migrant who is determined to fight for the life that she wants. In midst of her grief after a personal tragedy in her home country, she decides to leave her Canadian life behind. However, her attachment to Lian, her long-time partner, makes her departure a difficult one.
East Asian. Long-time partner of June. She is a 1.5 generation Chinese-Canadian. When June breaks the news of her permanent departure, Lian does not want to accept her decision and let go.
Chinese. Ability to speak Mandarin is an asset, not a necessity, ability to speak English with an accent is an asset): June's co-worker and friend. Blunt at times but caring. Sees June like a younger sister and wishes her well.
