Hearing with fluent ASL. A free-spirited and energetic young woman deeply in love with her husband, Paul. She is optimistic, adventurous, and often acts on impulse, leading to entertaining and chaotic situations.
Deaf. A more reserved and practical lawyer who takes his job seriously and often finds himself caught between his wife's desires for excitement and his own need for stability.
Mid to late 60s, Deaf. Corie's mother and a widow. She is portrayed as a slightly more conservative and traditional character who often clashes with Corie's carefree nature. However, Ethel's love for her daughter shines through, and she adds a touch of wisdom and humor to the lives around her.
Mid to late 60s, Hearing with basic sign language. The Bratter's eccentric neighbor who lives in the attic. He is a charming and flamboyant character whose humorous interactions and extravagant lifestyle expose the contrasts between his and the Bratter's more conventional one.
Deaf or Hearing. The Bratter's telephone repair person who unexpectedly becomes entangled in their lives. This is a friendly and down-to-earth character who provides some comic relief and adds an element of surprise to the storyline.
