About the project: The Professional follows two estranged childhood friends, Matt and Sam, who find themselves deeply embedded in the violent and bizarre world of organized crime. Once inseparable stoner kids with dreams of joining the RCMP, a single bad decision sends them spiraling into a life of heists, betrayal, and survival under a volatile crime boss known only as The Host. Now in their early twenties, Sam has risen to the top of the mercenary ranks, earning the cold and prestigious title of The Professional, while Matt remains a low-tier grunt — still lighthearted, still sarcastic, but emotionally frayed from years in the game. When Sam and The Host conspire to punish Matt by orchestrating the death of his closest friend and partner, Talon, the fallout fractures what little remains of their friendship. As Matt becomes hardened and bitter, Sam begins to break under the weight of his choices, especially after reconnecting with his ex, Alletra, who sees the man he used to be. Their stories collide as they’re forced to work together on a surreal assignment involving a movie theater, a short film, and a rapidly unraveling grip on what’s real. The two men — once bound by loyalty — must now decide if forgiveness is possible, and whether love or friendship can survive a life of crime. The film ends with a twist: Sam escapes with Alletra thanks to Matt’s help — or so it seems — while Matt is promoted to The Professional, now completely alone and imprisoned by the very title that destroyed his friend. The final shot questions whether anyone truly gets out — or if escape is just another illusion. Rate: Non-Union. Matt is a laid-back, wisecracking stoner who’s found himself stuck in a dangerous world. As a lower-tier mercenary working under a chaotic crime boss known as The Host, Matt floats through life with a sarcastic grin, a blunt in his hand, and a tendency to deflect real emotions with humor. He doesn’t take his job seriously — which frustrates his boss and especially his former best friend, Sam, who’s risen to the top as “The Professional".
Free-spirited, empathetic, and emotionally intuitive, Alletra is the heart in a world that has lost all warmth. Once Sam’s high school sweetheart, she re-enters his life at a time when he's emotionally numb and fully immersed in the cold, calculated life of a top-tier mercenary. Where others fear Sam or see him as unreachable, Alletra sees the person he used to be — loud, kind, reckless in a way that felt alive.
Andy is Talon’s love interest — thoughtful, warm, and disarmingly genuine. He’s not part of the criminal world, but he crosses paths with Talon during a heist and forms an immediate connection. Where Talon is chaotic and impulsive, Andy is calm and sincere, offering him a rare glimpse at what a different kind of life could look like. He’s the kind of person who listens more than he speaks, and when he does speak, it matters.
Talon is a wild card — unpredictable, energetic, and emotionally raw. He’s a young mercenary with a reckless, almost childlike charm, masking a deep internal struggle with the life he's chosen. Partnered with Matt for jobs under their boss The Host, Talon seems carefree at first: making jokes, goofing off, and not taking the criminal world too seriously. But underneath the surface, he’s unraveling.
