A young woman who’s hollowed out by addiction and isolation. Jennifer once had a loving family and a bright future, but now she floats through life numb and ashamed of herself. She's emotionally unstable, her silence is a mix of pain, guilt, fear, and buried hope. Her arc needs subtlety and contrast, a quiet collapse from internalized pain to psychological surrender.
A mysterious figure who may not be real. Patient, Elegant, persuasive, weird, and unsettlingly kind. The Shadow embodies the bridge to your addiction, despair, and surrender (the reflection of your worst version), not by force, but by seduction; he uses your fears and what hurts you the most to get what he wants, your life/soul. Its presence is gentle and suffocating, like a dream you can't wake from. Must command the screen quietly, with menace under stillness
Jennifer’s father. Warm, sincere, gentle, noble, and deeply loving. He appears in flashbacks and hallucinations. He´s an emotional anchor (even the reason why Jennifer is in pain), real or imagined, he is Jennifer´s memory of safety and unconditional love, contrasted against her present collapse. Must radiate compassion and joy through his smile without needing many words.
Jennifer’s roommate. Chaotic, selfish, impulsive, emotionally absent. Zane hides his emptiness behind jokes and drugs, he’s not malicious, but dangerous through his neglect. He’s the kind of person who ignores the consequences at all and pulls you deeper into them while pretending everything’s fine. Unstable, unpredictable, and tragic.
Jennifer’s assigned therapist. Detached, square, boring, clinical, and numb to suffering. Not evil, just systemically cold and robotic. She represents institutional failure: medication over conversation, protocol over empathy. Needs to deliver an indifference that feels cutting and frustrating without raising her voice
