About the project: The setting is Broadway as seen through the eyes of Damon Runyon where two love stories are interwoven with gambling gangsters, nightclub dancers, and the work of missionaries. The songs are among the best in musical theatre history, and Guys & Dolls is considered the finest musical comedy of all times. Additional info: Possible callbacks will be held on Tuesday, May 20 at 7:00 p.m. in Heiland Theatre in the Boy Cultural Arts Center. For auditions, you do not need to prepare anything. This is a workshop-style audition; everything you need will be provided. Both nights of auditions will include group/solo singing, movement/dance, and reading from the script. Please plan on staying for the entire time (about 2 ½–3 hours). Rehearsals will typically be held Sundays through Thursdays from 7:00–10:00 p.m. However, we are going to build a rehearsal schedule around the availability of our cast, so please be detailed in listing your evening conflicts. After the show is cast, a specific rehearsal schedule will be provided. You will only have to attend rehearsals for scenes in which your character is present. Performances will be on: Thursday, July 17 at 7:30 p.m. Friday, July 18 at 7:30 p.m. Saturday, July 19 at 7:30 p.m. Sunday, July 20 at 2:30 p.m. See the attachment for details. A New York police officer who is on to Nathan's illegal craps games and is dead-set on catching him. A tough, no-nonsense character. Non-singing role.
All ages and vocal ranges. Nightclub Dancers who are backup performers with Adelaide. The dances and song lyrics have some playfulness and innuendo. They are just a little naughty, but not raunchy like Kit Kat dancers from Cabaret. These ladies at least put on an air of sophistication. Mimi comes from this group.
All age and vocal ranges. Additional gangsters who want to be a part of Nathan Detroit's "oldest established permanent floating crap game in New York." They even follow into the sewers and the mission revival for a chance to play. Liver Lips Louie, Angie the Ox, Scranton Slim, Society Max, Brandy Bottle Bates are from this group.
All ages and vocal ranges. Members of the Save-a-Soul Mission who go out and try to drum up business. These performers may play instruments on stage or fake it depending on the actors' abilities. Agatha, Calvin, and Martha are from this group.
