About the project: "THE DEPUTY" follows one eventful night in the life of Toby, a young deputy sheriff in a small Southern town. 25 year old Toby lives in a sad little town in the Deep South, where he works as a part-time deputy. Toby’s got some bad habits, a miserable personal life, little skill for his job, and no apparent path to a brighter future. Ordered to guard a dead body, Toby wanders off, and gets in more trouble than even a competent cop could handle. Through the night, Toby encounters a van full of migrants, a trio of murderous coyotes, a wandering corpse, rednecks on a vengeance quest, a pair of killer cops, and a baby who will need a diaper change pretty soon. Toby grows up fast, and learns that he has an unexpected skill that surely comes in handy: he’s pretty good at dispatching the bad guys! Rate: Pays the SAG-AFTRA rate of $783/day.
