Additional information: Shooting in Vancouver, BC. Shooting Dates: August 5–29, 2025. Okinawan identity is distinct from mainland Japanese culture, and directors want to honour that difference. They also welcome submissions from actors who identify as Pacific Islander or Indigenous and feel connected to the Ryukyuan experience. Directors welcome submissions across Canada, and they are Filming in Vancouver, BC in August 2025. NO ACTING EXPERIENCE NECESSARY. The individual chosen to play Oba will be fully guided and supported to successfully perform this special role. Oba has spent her life farming with her late husband and refuses to leave—even as wildfires close in. She is wise, stubborn, and traditional, often using humor to sidestep emotional vulnerability. Beneath her strength lie deep wounds from World War II and the loss of her daughter. We are specifically seeking actors of Okinawan heritage.
