13 roles
The Defense Lawyer. Calm, intelligent, and empathetic. He genuinely believes in justice but is also realistic about the court system. A stable and trustworthy presence who acts as a sort of narrator. Notes: Can be played younger with confidence and gravitas, or older for a more seasoned, world-weary portrayal.
Charming, soft-spoken, and at first glance innocent. Portrays vulnerability well, but hides deeper cunning. Must walk the line between believable victim and potential manipulator. Notes: Should read as “young enough” to be plausibly doted on by an older woman, but mature enough to have a hidden darker side.
Complex and commanding. Has a theatrical presence, veering between calm manipulation and emotional intensity. Her transformation and disguise are key. Notes: Needs vocal dexterity to shift between "devoted wife," "vindictive ex," and "Mrs. Bendovski." Age flexibility depends on the dynamic with Leonard.
Protective, no-nonsense, and fiercely loyal to Miss French. Suspicious of Leonard from the beginning. Her testimony drives much of the prosecution’s case. Notes: Could be played as middle-aged or elderly. Strong character actor role.
Wealthy, generous, lonely, and possibly naive. Genuinely fond of Leonard. Seen only in warm, retrospective scenes. Notes: Should contrast in age and temperament with Leonard to highlight the questionable nature of their relationship.
Formal, commanding, even-tempered. Keeps control of the courtroom. Voice should carry weight. Notes: Could be any gender depending on interpretation.
Sharp, no-nonsense, and skilled at guiding the jury. Confident and quick on their feet. Notes: Could be male or female. Needs to balance authority with neutrality.
