13 roles
(36): Self-educated, self-possessed, and inscrutable. Wes started out as a DJ who worshipped the brazen ethos in hip-hop culture. He worked his way to the top of the game where it’s unfortunately become harder for him to enjoy the very music he once fell in love with. "Hit Machine"
(32): A musical prodigy struggling to survive in the gig economy. Alex reveres his brother as much as he's repelled by him. His greatest strength is his sincerity, which gets him into so much trouble. He speaks his truth, but his anger holds him back. He's looking for a break, a safe space in the world. "Hit Machine"
(22): A fast-rising, once-in-a-generation hip-hop talent. Defy's been making music since he was eight, just like these brothers -- it's his emotional outlet. He's savvy and trying to straddle commercial success with a sound that helped launch him. He's highly sensitive and attuned to his emotions, which is part of his innate talent. It's unclear whether or not the violence in his work is a character he puts on, a way to garner attention and success, or born out of his trauma. "Hit Machine"
(59). Actor to play both roles: SPADIE - Incarcerated at Fishkill Correctional for 42 years. A mediator and mentor - takes Ira under his wing. Fundamentally believes in solidarity. SMITH - Parole Board commissioner. Erudite and set in his ways. Speaks in his own form of verse and has no interest in getting to know the people he is seeing at board hearings. "The Hero U Took"
(49). Actor to play both roles: CHITO - Incarcerated at Fishkill Correctional for 33 years. Has grown up in prison - he went in when he was 16. Never the center of attention but likes to be in the action, always ready with a side comment. Speaks in Spanish. HERNANDEZ - Parole board commissioner. Trying her best to earnestly evaluate parole eligibility and uphold her duties. Knows her stuff and is beyond tired of being steamrolled by her fellow male commissioners. "The Hero U Took"
(19). Actor to play both roles: IRA - Incarcerated at Fishkill Correctional. One of the youngest men at Fishkill, and accordingly naive. Not yet oriented to the culture and systems of prison life, or the world in general. SANTANA - The devil on John Mackenzie's shoulder. "The Hero U Took"
(56, Black or Puerto Rican): Actor to play both roles: CHOCOLATE - Incarcerated at Fishkill Correctional for 21 years. Rough around the edges, always says exactly what's on his mind. Has a poetic flair. Views it as his job to educate the group about systemic racism. ANGELA - The angel on John Mackenzie's shoulder. "The Hero U Took"
Ten months in the store. Speaks with authority, has some snark to her, snappy and peppy. Doubles as NEW KID. "Foot Wears House"
New as of May. Still learning. Enthusiastic and aspiring leader. Doubles as NEW KID 2. "Foot Wears House"
CLARK: Six months in the store. Tries hard, a little ignorant, but pro-union. BOZ: New as of June. Ignorantly positive, not political. Doubles as NEW KID 4. "Foot Wears House"
SANNE - Insufferable, but she volunteers with kittens so you have to like her. BRAD - A camp counselor who doesn't actually care about his campers. ZACHARY - The display designer. Does everything in his power to avoid helping his colleagues out. "Foot Wears House"
A sister who has put advocating for her brother’s freedom above her own. On the edge of cracking open. "Date of Release"
A healer and a great listener. A yoga instructor. "Date of Release"
