About the project: Roberto left Mexico for Canada as a young college student, carrying nothing but dreams of a better future. Determined to carve out a life of success and stability, he worked tirelessly to build a career and provide for his growing family. However, years later, with the birth of his second child fast approaching, he still finds himself feeling like an outsider. Struggling to keep up with the high expectations set by his wife’s friends and family. Rate: Union (TBC). This is an ULB Project. Latin American, preferably Mexican. Language: Bilingual (English/Spanish). A Mexican immigrant and father of two, now working a demanding corporate job in Calgary, while his family lives in Vancouver. Once hopeful and ambitious, Roberto is now emotionally distant, weighed down by stress and his fading sense of self-worth. He is struggling to balance the expectations of being a provider with the emotional needs of his family. Bilingual fluency and strong emotional range are essential.
A resilient and caring mother trying to hold the family together while also reclaiming her identity as a writer. Emma is loving but firm. Deeply frustrated by Roberto’s absence and pride. She seeks peace for her family but is not afraid to stand up for her children’s well-being. Needs emotional depth and strong dialogue delivery in both English and basic Spanish.
Emma’s father and Roberto’s former employer. A pragmatic, emotionally blunt businessman who struggles to express love except through control. He represents the systemic pressures that weigh down Roberto. Vince hides concern behind sarcasm and control, offering a subtle antagonism without being a villain. Needs gravitas and presence.
Latin American. Language: Spanish/English. Roberto’s best friend. A good-humored, grounded person who offers both comic relief and a contrasting life perspective. The kind of friend who shows up with beer and jokes, but also wisdom when it’s needed. Spanish fluency and strong natural chemistry with Roberto are key.
