About the project: Logline: A talented but overlooked Black film student is invited to join an elite campus film crew-only to uncover a dark legacy of stolen work, buried voices, and sinister traditions. Synopsis: Jalen Carter, a gifted filmmaker from Chicago, is finally noticed by the prestigious (and mostly white) Golden Reel film crew. But their secretive "initiation" quickly turns into a twisted game. exposing a legacy of exploitation and silenced Black artists. As Jalen unearths the truth, he must choose between exposing the system or becoming its next victim. Additional info: Non-union. (Lead). 21 y.o. Introspective, determined, and emotionally layered. Jalen is a gifted editor who's used to being overlooked in elite spaces. Must be able to portray vulnerability, tension, and power in quiet moments. Scenes involve emotional monologues, subtle tension, and confrontation.
22 y.o. Charismatic and calculated. Ethan is the leader of the Golden Reel crew-a modern-day cult masked as a film society. Must balance charm with a sinister undercurrent. Think: sociopathic frat president meets performance art visionary.
21 y.o. Caucasian or mixed race. Edgy, enigmatic, always behind the lens. Liv is seductive and emotionally detached, but something about Jalen's story gets under her skin. Should exude mystery and unpredictability. Uses a camcorder throughout, often silently observing.
22 y.o. Large, intimidating, and mostly silent. Ethan's right hand. Communicates more with stares than words. Must be physically expressive with minimal dialogue. Appears during initiation scenes and key confrontations.
Well-meaning but potentially complicit. The polished, bureaucratic face of the institution. Must walk the line between comforting and cold. Appears in climactic scene where truth is blurred.
