23 roles

Jo MarchFemale18-25 y.o.All ethnicities

Mezzo-Soprano [E3-A5]. Empowered. Determined. Passionate. And oh, so stubborn. An inspired writer. Jo is unstoppable in whatever she does. The well of love for her family is bottomless. Romance couldn't be farther back in her mind when listing her priorities. She moves swiftly. By nature, Jo is selfish, but she tries her hardest to push that back. She is always trying to make the best decision for herself and her family.

Meg MarchFemale18-26 y.o.All ethnicities

Soprano [Bb3-Bb5]) A traditional girl. A hopeless romantic. A wonderful actress. Ambition doesn't feel necessary to her, though she has the talents for it. Meg never forgets her role as the eldest. She has hopes to be accepted into high society, and sometimes, she loses herself in it. What she really wants is pure happiness, and she finds it through family and love.

Beth MarchFemale18-23 y.o.All ethnicities

Soprano [A3-G5]) The sweetest soul among the March sisters. A wonderful piano player. Shy, and optimistic. She doesn't deny any of her sisters their dreams, no matter how simple or seemingly ridiculous. She couldn't think to ask for more than what she already has, and she only strives to be as good a person as her parents. Beth spends years battling illness, but it does not scare her.

Amy MarchFemale18-22 y.o.All ethnicities

Soprano [B3-F#5]). The youngest March sister. A gifted painter. Much more intelligent than anyone gives her credit for. She tries to compensate with confidence, but sometimes, it can come off as arrogance. She crushes easily. She wants to be rich, popular, and successful. But at the end of the day, Amy looks up to her sisters, and she carries a piece of each of them with her.

Marmee MarchFemale36-49 y.o.All ethnicities

Mezzo-Soprano [Eb3-Eb5]) Mother to the four March sisters. Giving and kind to the bone. An active community member. An anchor to her girls. Everything she does is for the good of others; she has learned to be this way over the years. Marmee takes full care of the girls while their father is fighting in the Civil War.

Aunt MarchFemale50-69 y.o.All ethnicities

Mezzo-Soprano [Eb3-F#3). Wealthy widow. Great-aunt to the March sisters on their father's side. She comes off as cold and dismissive. Aunt March thinks she knows what's best for the girls. She can be hard on them, especially Jo, but she does so in hopes of making life easier for them in the long run. Has a slightly transatlantic accent.

Professor BhaerMale35-39 y.o.All ethnicities

Baritone [G2-F#4]) German professor who works alongside Jo at a girls' school in New York in the later years of the story. He is intelligent, well mannered, and very direct, except when it comes to his feelings. He admires Jo, but he doesn't always know how to provide her with the support she wants. He may be reserved, but he is still decisive and brave when the moment calls for it. German accent optional.

Laurie LaurenceMale18-25 y.o.All ethnicities

Tenor [Bb2-Bb4]). Timid and gentle, yet incredibly charming. Neighbor to the Marches, he grew up fascinated by what he'd see through his window, and he is delighted to finally be let into their beautiful chaos. Laurie comes from wealth, so he's never needed to be ambitious; he only wants to smell the roses with the people he cherishes. But he is no stranger to high society, and he knows how to work a room. *Open to gender-bending casting; the character will be male presenting.

Mr. John BrookeMale20-39 y.o.All ethnicities

Baritenor [C#3-G4]) Laurie's tutor. Meg's love interest. Nervous and kind. Mr. Brooke is humble, both behaviorally and financially. He only wishes to fulfill his duty to Laurie and his grandfather. Still, he can't help it when Meg catches his eye, and boy would he do anything for the woman he loves.

Mr. LaurenceMale50-69 y.o.All ethnicities

Baritone [C#3-E4]) Laurie's grandfather and guardian. Neighbor to the Marches. A wealthy businessman with seemingly little patience. Mr. Laurence warms up to the March sisters as the years go by, and as Laurie gets closer to them. He has a soft spot for Beth who reminds him of his late daughter.
