Audition for Student Movie “Hobbes Odyssey” in NJ
Actors for (open-to-union) thesis short film “Hobbes Odyssey”. ONLY LOCAL, NY & CT TALENT WILL BE CONSIDERED. Please see the roles below. About the project: "Leading up to a funeral, an estranged young man must decide whether or not to embrace his involuntary dance condition." Rate: The roles are compensated by deferred payment, meaning there is no upfront pay, but if the film succeeds in festivals, the first profits will go towards the actors until they are fully compensated. The roles are also compensated by transportation, credit, a private copy of the film, and catering. Additional info: Students are planning on submitting it to film festivals after production. Callbacks will be held on April 5th and 6th in New York, NY (preferably in-person but virtual option available). The shooting will take place from May 2nd-May 6th in the Tri-State area (NY, NJ, CT) and all actors must be based in the Tri-State area (NY, NJ, CT). When applying, please include a headshot and resume (not required but preferred). You will then be provided with sides and self-tape instructions.

Lead, masculine-presenting. A reserved man struggling to fit in because of his uncontrollable dancing. Having been belittled his whole life, Hobbes lacks the confidence needed to be himself.
Lead, masculine-presenting. Hobbes’ father. Stern, religious, family oriented. He wants the best for Hobbes, even if that means challenging his son.
Supporting, masculine-presenting. A free-spirited and elephant-pant-wearing hippie who approaches conflict with defiance and naivety. His loyalty to Hobbes and high pitched voice are unwavering.
Supporting, masculine-presenting. The rebellious bad boy, cool mix of angst, who encourages Hobbes to take more risks.
Supporting, masculine-presenting. The repulsive bully who makes fun of Hobbes’ insatiable dancing despite having little going on for himself.
Supporting, masculine-presenting. One of Nicky’s obnoxious frat goons who blindly follows his lead and bullies Hobbes.

Supporting, feminine-presenting. Hobbes’ ominous countenance-wearing mother who passed away when Hobbes was younger. Needs to be comfortable with ‘a dance’ in a bathtub.
(60+): Supporting, feminine-presenting. An intrusive figure whose seemingly innocent questions unintentionally expose cracks in Hobbes' reality, making her an unsettling presence in his unraveling world.
