ONLY LOCAL TALENT WILL BE ACCEPTED. Seeking performers to play roles in production of "In Arabia We'd All Be Kings". More details are below. About the play: Set in Hell’s Kitchen, New York, during the late 1990s, In Arabia We’d All Be Kings by Stephen Adly Guirgis is a raw and gripping drama about a group of broken souls struggling to survive in a rapidly gentrifying neighborhood. The play takes place mostly inside and around a seedy bar that serves as a gathering place for characters whose lives have been shaped by poverty, addiction, crime, and shattered dreams. The play is a dark, poetic and brutally honest portrayal of urban decay and the people caught in its grip. Rate: Non union. $300 flat rate per role casted. Additional information: Audition Location Vancouver, BC. Shoot/Performance Date(s) November 10-23 2025. Auditions will be conducted during 15-20 minute intervals. Callbacks will be conducted on May 10th, 2025. 12pm – 8pm. Performance Dates & Location: November 10-23, 2025 – Show times & Dates TBA. Show opens November 13th, 2025. Rehearsal Dates: Tuesdays & Thursdays 6pm-10pm & Sundays 12pm-4pm. Rehearsals will start July 24th, 2025, and run thru November 1st, 2025. Some additional rehearsal days closer to performance dates TBD. Please be committed to the rehearsal schedule. We will be doing a full run through of the play the week of November 3rd, 2025. Technical rehearsal will be on November 10, 11 & 12 with the dress rehearsal on November 12. Due to time constraints only actors who are asked to audition will be contacted with the sides. Be prepared to participate in cold readings from the script and working with other actors. Submission Deadline April 20, 2025. Complex, Alluring, Disillusioned, Intense A failed actor tuned homeless, crack-addicted Vietnam War veteran. He is crude, unpredictable, and darkly funny. Beneath his rough, filthy exterior, there’s a deep sadness—he has seen too much and lived too hard. Chickie’s Boyfriend.
Vulnerable, Tough, Optimistic. A street-smart, fast-talking hustler who knows how to navigate the rough edges of the city. She’s sharp, opportunistic, and always looking for the next move to get ahead. She doesn’t trust easily and uses charm, manipulation, and force when necessary to survive. Skank’s Girlfriend.
Tough, Wounded, Guarded A young woman who has turned to sex work for survival. She wants to believe in love and escape her circumstances, but she’s been burned too many times. She’s emotionally guarded, tough on the outside, but aching for something real. Lenny’s “Ex” Girlfriend.
Melancholic, Lonely, Regretful, Humorous A simple-minded day bartender, who thinks he’s a Jedi warrior looking for love in the wrong places.
To play a 17. (Latina or Italian): Resilient, Hardened, Survivor Mrs Reyes is Daughter. An out of control want to be sex worker dealing with out-of-control mood swings.
Additional Character. (Latina): Bitter, Proud, Weary. A hardened, older woman who has seen the neighborhood change for the worse. She’s tough, bitter, and deeply resentful of the way things have turned out. Demery’s is Mother.
Additional Character. Arrogant, Entitled, Condescending. A wealthy outsider who represents the gentrification of the city. He doesn’t belong in this world but walks in with an air of entitlement. He looks down on the people around him, seeing them as relics of a past that’s being erased.
Additional Character. (BIPOC): Hopeful, Impulsive, Idealistic. Owner of the local hangout, inherited from his father. Longing for the chance to leace “this sewer” for a re-invented life in Florida.
Additional Character. Gruff, Alcoholic, Cynical. An old, dying guilt-ridden drunk who exists somewhere between reality and the afterlife.
