Audition for "Beautiful:The Carol King Musical". Seeking males and females. Please see the details below. ONLY LOCAL TAENT WILL BE ACCEPTED. Additional info: Callbacks, if necessary, will be Wednesday, April 16 between 5:00 p.m. and 9:00 p.m. Those auditioning will be asked to present 16-32 measures of a song in the style of the show and to participate in a movement/dance call within a one-hour and fifteen minute timeframe. An accompanist will be provided for vocal auditions. Please arrive 15 minutes prior to your scheduled audition time to complete requested audition paperwork. Please provide sheet music for your piece in legible, clearly-marked condition. Please provide a headshot and resume (if available) at your audition. Please dress in attire appropriate for the movement/dance call. Time and space will be provided for all auditioning to change prior to and after the dance/movement call. Please be prepared to provide rehearsal date conflicts at your audition. Rehearsals Rehearsals are scheduled to take place Sundays 3:30-6:30 p.m. and Mondays through Thursdays 6:30-9:30 p.m. beginning April 21. Rehearsal will be scheduled as normal for Memorial Day (May 26). CAROLE KING Mezzo/Belter (Eb3-Eb5]) An aspiring singer/songwriter. A Unique, appealing, funny, and vulnerable girl from a Jewish family in Brooklyn. Talented, good natured, and unassuming, and often the peacemaker in difficult situations A reluctant star with no pretense and a passion for music. Seeking a strong actor with great vocal command. GERRY GOFFIN To play ages teens to late 20% Baritone/Tenor [03-A4]] Carole's boyfriend, songwriting partner, and eventual husband. He is smoldering, dark, and handsome with rebellious energy. While attractive, he is innately sympathetic and wounded with a tortured spirit. An ambitious artist always striving for more. Seeking a strong actor who sings well. Although self-confident and sarcastic, she is also extremely likeable. Seeking a performer with strong comic timing and powerful voice. Participates in scenes of intimacy which include stage-kissing
To play ages teens to late 20s, Pop/Rock Tenor [C3-A4]) A songwriter who becomes romantically involved with Cynthia Weil. He is good natured, appealing, and neurotic. He maintains his likability despite his ambition. Seeking a strong comedic actor with a powerful voice. Must be comfortable with pop/rock styles of singing. Participates in scenes of intimacy which include stage-kissing. Piano and Electric Guitar proficiency a plus but not required.
Bass/Baritone An influential music publisher and producer. He is a fast talking, energetic force of nature. Powerful, direct, and sometimes intimidating, it is evident he has a true affinity for his writers and artists. A hit maker who leaves the bulk of the singing to the professionals.
Non-Singing Role Carole King’s mother. Once an aspiring playwright, she has been broken down by life and her husband’s infidelity. Protective of Carole and unforgiving of her husband’s mistakes. A meddlesome presence at times, but often the emotional heart of her household.
Alto/Mezzo-Soprano [G#3-D5] Popular singer and object of another’s affections, she is ever talented and glamorous. Featured Song: “One Fine Day.”
Alto/Mezzo [G3-C5] A demo singer in the offices at 1650 Broadway, she gets caught in the middle of a conflict between two of her co-workers with foundation-shaking results. Costuming for this role may include a negligee or similar type dressing gown.
Mezzo/Belt [B3-E5] Carole and Gerry’s babysitter while they start building their catalogue. Finds herself in the right place at the right time. Seeking a charismatic performer with a powerful voice. Featured Song: “The Locomotion”
Non-singing Role Secretary to Donny Kirschner and general manager of the goings on around 1650 Broadway. She is strictly professional and stands guard to keep the masses away from Mr. Kirschner’s door.
