Born in Prince Rupert to Chinese immigrants, Skyler moved to Vancouver to pursue further opportunities and education - a move motivated more so through internal pressures than those she conjured of her parents expectations. Her disciplined and reliable nature lends to her desire to be in control. Quiet and introverted, she is rarely the type of person to engage, choosing observation as compromise. Margaret is an immigrant who has been living in Vancouver for over 40 years. Fiercely independent from necessity, Margaret moved away from family and friends to a country, neighbourhood, and culture vastly different from her childhood home (all this at the age of 25). Over time, that independence grew into a quality of confidence that could only be earned through hardship and self-reflection. Main.
Skyler’s Mom immigrated to Canada many years ago and continues to run their family store in Prince Rupert. She often worries about her daughter, pestering her with questions about getting a job promotion. Despite this, she truly cares about her daughter’s wellbeing and only wants what’s best for her future. MUST BE FLUENT IN CANTONESE. Chinese or Asian-identifying…SUPPORTING.
John lives in Skyler’s apartment building and is Margaret’s neighbour. He is high-strung and abrasive - like he’s always stressed out about something. His day-to-day life in the building is disrupted when Skyler inadvertently causes trouble for him and his apartment. PRINCIPAL.
