Dancers Needed for "Matilda" Show
Performers are needed for theater auditions for "Matilda," the musical. Please review the details below. ONLY LOCAL TALENT WILL BE ACCEPTED. Additional info: Prepare 32 bars (measures) of a song in the style of the show that shows off your acting and vocal range. Bring sheet music in the correct key. An accompanist will be provided (you are welcome to use a track if you prefer). Dress to move, as there will be a dance combo. You may be asked to do a very brief, cold reading from the script. These auditions are individual, however the dance combo portion will range from 4-12 people depending on the audition slot. Callbacks: Monday, April 7th 5-8 pm, Hall Memorial Library Rehearsals: Begin in June, typically run M-Th evenings. June rehearsals at Somers Congregational Church, July rehearsals at EHS. Female presenting, The antagonist of the show. She’s a tyrannical headmistress at Matilda's school who despises children. A cruel and sadistic person, but not a brute or brash - rather, sly and conniving, cunning and slinky. Above all, must be a strong actor with a good sense of physicality, characterization, and comedy. Very strong singer and mover. Vocal Range: Alto/Tenor G4 - A2.
Matilda's kindhearted teacher. She is tired of living in fear under Miss Trunchbull. Sweet, honest, caring, and intelligent, Miss Honey is timid but willing to become brave and stand up to bullies in order to protect her students. Strong singer and actor to make the role truly compelling. Vocal Range: Alto/Mezzo D5 - F3.
Matilda's uncaring father. A slimy, greedy used-car salesman, unintentionally hilarious. Must be a VERY strong actor and comedian who can bring physical humor into the role. Vocal Range: Tenor/Baritone A4 - D3.
Matilda's self-absorbed, negligent mother and an amateur ballroom dancer. Must be a VERY strong comedic/character actress, dancer, and singer able to carry off a sizable comedic role. Vocal Range: Mezzo F5 - A3.
Matilda's slightly older brother. He is a deadpan comedic character, with various lines and “bits” throughout the show. Must be a strong comedic actor. Vocal Range: E5 - C4.
