About the project: A young woman sits at her estranged mother’s deathbed, listening as she recounts the story of a distant and haunting chapter of her life. Frail and fading, the mother remembers her small-town teenage years in Rocky Top, a time shaped by her father’s devastating glioblastoma diagnosis and the shadow of a serial killer, the infamous Rocky Top Ripper. As the memories spill out, fragmented and dreamlike, the daughter begins to imagine, reconstructing the past through her own mind’s eye. The late 1970s and early 1980s come alive in a swirl of vivid details, warped by her mother’s faltering mind and the daughter’s attempt to fill in the gaps, creating a narrative both familiar and strangely out of time.
