About the project: As a modern audience watches, a popularized hit reality TV show tests a Chinese elderly couple’s relationship through a series of questions which evoke past memories and uncover hidden secrets, ultimately to reveal the key to their true happiness of personal liberation, leaving the audience to mourn their beautiful parting, not ending. Rate: Non-Union. Although directors are unable to provide monetary compensation, this will be great exposure as it will be submitted to film festivals internationally. Additional information: Shoot/Performance Date(s) March 22 - March 24 (3 Days). Shoot/Performance Location(s) Vancouver and Richmond. Please note directors are also open to non-actors. Casting WU HAO & XI MENG - strongly prefer fluent Mandarin (not a requirement). Submission Deadline February 27, 2025. (Preferably of Chinese/Taiwanese Descent and Speaks Fluent Mandarin) Earnest WU HAO, a hardworking Chinese immigrant, spent his life secretly hiding his true sexuality, ultimately forcing him into an arranged marriage. Despite not being personally fulfilled, Wu Hao worked tirelessly to love and provide for his wife. In their old age, this love is tested when he must choose between revealing his hidden secret or getting the money to save his wife from a life threatening illness.
(Preferably of Chinese/Taiwanese Descent and Speaks Fluent Mandarin) Although having an arranged marriage, Chinese immigrant, loyal, thoughtful and reserved XI MENG protected and loved her husband despite his secret Queer sexuality, which he hid from her. When a terminal illness threatens her life the couple decides to enter into a game show which tests their relationships foundation.
(Preferably of Chinese/Taiwanese Descent and Speaks Fluent Mandarin) Stoic and sincere HOA actively works to make a better life in the United States, despite his lack of English skills causing elements of cultural shock. He is eventually touched by Meng's persistence and drive to build a new life. He then tries to support, love and care for his wife whom he is feels shameful for a keeping the secret of his sexuality hidden.
(Preferably of Chinese/Taiwanese Descent and Speaks Fluent Mandarin) Meng is a committed, loyal wife who builds a strong home foundation in America for the Chinese immigrant couple, while trying to maintain her relationship with the heavy weight of Hao’s secret sexuality upon her. Due to her fear of cultural social ridicule, she gracefully stands by his side.
Strong, stern, powerful deep voice, who works to clearly project the questions of the game, in order to act as a guide for the couple and the television audience. (This is an off-screen role)
Additional Character. Energetic, confident nursing student is fixated on a new reality show and subtly tries to get her boyfriend invested.
Additional Character. Stubborn, tough, and clever marketing specialist ROMAN despises reality shows, so aims to distract himself from his enthusiastic girlfriend's pleas.
Additional Character. Overworked and outcasted businessman ZAIN turns on the reality show to keep him awake while finishing work, but gets easily distracted and consumed by the show
Additional Character. Friendly, joyful GRACE is not afraid to say what she really thinks about the TV people on the screen, while casually doing her makeup for fun.
Additional Character. Fast paced employee actively answers their headset radio while working hard tor read from their clipboard.
