The deformed bellringer of Notre Dame. Ringing the bells daily has left him partially deaf but very strong. Lonely but big-hearted, naïve and shy, Quasimodo has a vivid imagination and unexpected courage. He has a halting speech when speaking to other ‘real’ characters, but his inner monologue and songs are free from this impediment. Vocal range top: Bb4 Vocal range bottom: Bb2
Archdeacon of Notre Dame Cathedral, Frollo is pious and self-righteous. A strong, imposing presence, his evil actions are driven by his tortured soul. Much of his inner turmoil is derived from his attraction to Esmeralda, as well as the loss of his brother. Vocal range top: F4 Vocal range bottom: G2
A strong and free-spirited Gypsy, Esmeralda is able to capture the attention of the multitudes, particularly when she is dancing. Underneath her showmanship, she is deeply compassionate with a strong sense of justice and morality. A strong, flexible dancer. Vocal range top: Db5 Vocal range bottom: F3
The clever and charismatic King (or Queen) of the Gypsies. Able to mesmerize a crowd, Clopin is an excellent master of ceremonies. An air of mystery surrounds this character, who boasts a dark, serious nature when not performing for the crowd. Vocal range top: Bb4 Vocal range bottom: D3
Newly appointed Captain of the Cathedral Guard, Phoebus is dashing and charismatic, fun-loving and cocky. He also haunted by his memories of war, and conflicted when given orders that defy his strong moral compass. Vocal range top: Ab4 Vocal range bottom: C3

DISNEY’S THE HUNCHBACK OF NOTRE DAME features a highly active ensemble called the Congregation. These are strong, dynamic performances who function as narrators and play multiple featured roles throughout the show. Most will have some soloist parts. Some skilled dancers are absolutely needed, but dancing will not be a requirement for everyone. Acrobatic skills are a plus (please note those on your audition form).
