Retired professor who has lost his purpose in life, raging against his twilight years and wrestling with mortality. Covering symptoms of mental decline with anger and morbid humor. Boyish and humorous, but also grand. Underneath is a kind and loving soul. Actor playing this role must be comfortable with stage kisses and intimacy
Norman's wife. Both Norman's opposite and his match. She tempers his harsh edges and fiercely loves and defends him. Ethel wants to live and enjoy the present without baggage from the past or fear of the future. Pretty and energetic. Actor playing this role must be comfortable with stage kisses and intimacy
Chelsea's ex-boyfriend. Big, weather-beaten mailman with an Infectious laugh and Maine accent. He lives his life with humor and boyhood charm to ignore his past regrets.
Norman and Ethel's daughter. Truly her father's daughter; she uses humor and sharp wit to protect herself. She loves but also resents her parents. A confident adult who reverts to a self-conscious girl in her childhood home. She wants to begin her new life and start fresh with Norman.
Chelsea's boyfriend. A well-dressed confident yet self-serious man. He is nervous to impress Chelsea's parents, but he also isn't afraid to stand up to Norman's crap.
