About the show: Set in the 1590's, brothers Nick and Nigel Bottom are desperate to write a hit play but are stuck in the shadow of that Renaissance rock star known as "The Bard" (William Shakespeare). When a local soothsayer foretells that the future of theatre involves singing, dancing and acting at the same time, Nick and Nigel set out to write the world's very first musical. But amidst the scandalous excitement of opening night, the Bottom Brothers realize that reaching the top means being true to thine own self….and all that jazz. Additional information: You may be required to sing a song from the show, read sides, and/or attend a group dance call. Directors will contact you with times and instructions a week before callbacks. Callback date: March 23rd. Show dates: July 18th - 27th, 2025. Location: Chilliwack, BC. Rehearsal Schedule: April-July. Tenor or high baritone. Nick’s sweet younger brother. A struggling writer who falls in love with Portia, a Puritan. Solo singing required.
Alto (strong belt). Nick’s wife. She loves Nick despite his past lack of success. She dresses up like a man to prove she can be an actor. Solo singing required.
Soprano (strong mix). A Puritan who loves poetry, theater, and ultimately Nigel. Solo singing required.
Tenor or high baritone. Mezzo/Alto with high belt. A soothsayer who “almost” sees the future correctly. Comedic performer who sings and moves well. Solo singing required.
All voice types. Portia's father. A Puritan who thinks Nick and Nigel's plays are sinful. Likely to play other roles. Comedic performer who sings.
All voice types. A flamboyant theatre producer. This character may also play other roles throughout the show. Comic speaking role.
Baritone or tenor. An investor to whom Nick and Nigel are in debt. Loves the theatre more than anything. Comedic performer.
